Skip (Kevin Grimshaw)
My time as a scout leader started because my son was a Cub and there was a need for helpers.
After overhearing a conversation between the GSL (Jo) and a parent of one of our cubs, I volunteered to “have a go” at running a Scout Troop in the village. It certainly wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be but after attending an Interview board, getting clearance from the Criminal Records Bureau and passing a few training courses I started running the re-borne 1st Iwade Scout Troop.
I have been amazed at the amount of support that is available to leaders from within the Scout association and by the offers of help I have had from parents.
I was a Cub and a Scout with the 3rd Winchester (The Worthies) group and rose to the dizzy height of Patrol Leader in the Scouts. Things have certainly changed since then but my hope is that everyone who joins our scout troop enjoys it as much as I enjoyed my time as a scout.
